Instructions for fitting and using the SnoreMate Anti-Snoring Mouthguard
To get the maximum effect from your anti-snoring mouthguard, it is important that the fit is good. You may want to practice the different steps a few times before you start heating and fitting the mouthguard for real. Make sure to read through the entire instruction manual before you begin.
The mouthguard should not cool down, so it is best to complete the entire process without interruptions. However, if it does cool down, you can start over from the beginning.
In addition to the mouthguard, you will need the following:
- a pot with water
- a container with cold water
- scissors or a knife.
How to customize the mouthguard:
- Fill a pot with enough water so that the mouthguard can be fully submerged. Also, fill a container with cold water and set it aside for later use.
- Bring the water in the pot to a boil. Then, remove the pot from the heat.
- It is recommended to use a stopwatch for this step. Hold the mouthguard by the handle and submerge it in the heated water for EXACTLY 8 SECONDS.
- Remove the mouthguard from the water and gently shake off any excess water.
- Hold the handle with the “TOP” marking facing upwards (this side should be towards the upper jaw). Push your lower jaw forward about 0.5 cm into a comfortable forward position. Open your mouth and place the mouthguard on the lower jaw. Make sure that the outer edges of the guard do not fold inwards.
- Bite down with your jaw in the forward position. Do not bite into the outer edges.
IMPORTANT! Apply even pressure with your bite across the entire mouthguard while keeping your lower jaw in the forward position. This will ensure that the mouthguard fits straight and feels comfortable.
- Close your mouth and suck in hard. This creates a vacuum that will help the edges of the mouthguard conform to your teeth. At the same time, use your tongue to press from the inside and use your fingers to press from the outside, “massaging” from the front of your upper and lower jaws toward the sides for a good fit. Continue this adjustment for a few minutes.
- Once the mouthguard has cooled, carefully remove it and place it in the cold water to harden. There should now be deep teeth impressions throughout the mouthguard.
- Place the mouthguard back in your mouth to check the fit.
- If you are not satisfied, you can repeat the fitting process from steps 1–7. You can adjust the mouthguard up to 3 times. NOTE: When re-adjusting the mouthguard, submerge it in the warm water for only 5-6 seconds.
Once you are satisfied with the fit, you can remove the handle with scissors or a knife. However, you may want to keep the handle for a few nights to make it easier to handle the mouthguard if further adjustments are needed.
Tips!
- If you accidentally bite into the outer edge during fitting, or if it folds inward, you can carefully and quickly fold it back with your fingers, a toothpick, or similar tool.
- If the mouthguard cools down, you can easily re-do the adjustment according to steps 1–7. NOTE: When adjusting for the second time, submerge the mouthguard in the warm water for only 5-6 seconds. You can adjust the mouthguard up to 3 times.
- If you feel you are not getting enough effect, try re-adjusting the mouthguard with your lower jaw pushed further forward. You can adjust the mouthguard up to 3 times.
Good luck, and sleep well!
Usage
Once you have adjusted the mouthguard according to the instructions, it is time to start using SnoreMate. It may take a few days to get used to sleeping with the mouthguard. If it feels very strange, you can wear it for just a few hours during the night and gradually increase the time until you wear it throughout the entire night. You may also experience some soreness in your jaws in the morning. This is completely normal and will disappear after some time of use.
